Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Rivers State chapter, has shunned the traditional May Day celebration, rather, it assembled at the union’s state secretariat to mark Workers’ Day.
The moves it was gathered is in solidarity with the suspended Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly.
Also, the development is a clear rejection of the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu.
The NLC had in a statement announced it would not hold the customary celebration at Isaac Boro Park, where various unions traditionally conduct a march-past.
This action follows a directive issued by the national leadership of the NLC.
