The Kuje magistrate court in Abuja has granted bail to Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra ( IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu: human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, Prince Emmanuel Kanu and 11 others arrested over the #FreeNnamdiKanunow protest in Abuja.
The presiding Magistrate of the court Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d on Friday granted the bail after the defendants were arraigned on charges bordering on unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace.
According to the ruling, the court granted Ejimakor and the other protesters bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, subject to the condition that they present a verified National Identification Number (NIN).
The magistrate also directed the defendants to present their three-year tax clearance certificates and submit their passports as part of the bail conditions.
Ejimakor and Prince Kanu, alongside 11 others were arrested on Monday during the protest calling for the IPOB leader’s release.
Similarly, Sowore was arrested on Thursday by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force after leaving the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he attended the trial of Mr Kanu.
Mr Kanu who is facing charges on alleged terrorism, had been detained by the Department of State Services ( DSS) since he was extraordinarily renditioned from Kenya in 2021.
