The Federal Capital Territory Administration will today November 15, 2025, join host of other state to adopt clean cooking gas (LPG) as a safer and healthier alternative to firewood and charcoal.
According to the FCTA, 5,000 gas cylinders will be distributed across the six area councils of the FCT, to encourage households to switch from firewood and charcoal to clean cooking gas.
The distribution of the cylinders marks the official launch of the Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja, an initiative that will run for six months, the FCT Mandate Secretary, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, said.
With the theme “Renewing Hope, One Household at a Time,” the event, supported by IHS Nigeria, will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, and will bring together environmental and health experts, students, development partners, policy makers, and other key stakeholders.
Lere Olayinka, the media assistant to FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, said in a statement on Friday that the initiative was aimed at reducing health risks associated with household air pollution, protect the environment, and contribute to sustainable living in the capital city.
