The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr Shuaib Belgore, has pledged federal government commitment and timely delivery of the federal secretariat project in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Speaking at the project site, Mr Belgore, who led an inspection team from the ministry, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work.
Earlier, Engr Olakulehin Kabir, the project manager, Golden Construction Company Ltd, and the contractors handling the project, appealed to the ministry to speed up approval for variation and release of funds to enable them deliver on the project, which has reached 80 percent completion.
In reaction to the contractor’s remarks, the permanent secretary assured the contractor that the ministry will honour his request for variation to enable civil servants have better office accommodations to discharge their duties efficiently.
He added that Anambra, Bayelsa, Gombe, Nasarawa, and Zamfara state’s federal secretariats were awarded along side Osun project which is now at an advanced stage.
Meanwhile, he acknowledged the appreciable level of work in the ongoing construction of Osogbo Renewed Hope Estate, but however charged the contractors to scale up work, promising to facilitate their payments after meeting their valuation requirements
” Government is enthusiastic and optimistic with this project, and will not hesitate to review and take decision, including termination of contract for non performing contractiors ” he emphasised
The permanent secretary also visited the ministry’s field office in Osogbo, where he interacted with the staff. He commended them for their hard work in ensuring the delivery of government projects in the State.
He acknowledged their concern for inadequate professional staff which he described as a general concern even at the ministry headquarters.
Dr Belgore assured them that the ministry has made its operations easy in terms of correspondences with the headquarters by going digital, saying that computers will be provided for field offices to ease their work.
