Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has empowered 100 communities and 2,040 citizens in the state to fast-track rural development in the state.
Flagging off the programme at Re Meritona Hotel, Abakaliki, the governor stated that the programme, anchored by Ebonyi State Community and Social Development Agency, EB-CSDA, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring, would help to impact lives positively.
Nwifuru said 2,040 citizens of the state would be empowered under the world bank Assisted NG-CARES.
The governor, represented by speaker of the state House of Assembly, Moses Ije-Odunwa, noted that the state-wide micro-project and fund disbursement would be beneficial to 100 qualified communities to the tune of N12.5 million for the execution of rural projects in the state.
According to him, the 2,040 citizens, are to be empowered under the labour intensive public workfare, will receive the sum of N180,000 per individual on two different tranches, adding that the decision was in line with his People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
Speaking, the general manager of EB-CSDA, Mr James Iroh stated that beneficiaries of the empowerment would receive the total of N360,000 within the two tranches of the disbursement, and appreciate the state governor for his strong support to human capital development.
The programme was attended by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr Leonard Uguru, Special Assistant to the governor on Inter Party Affairs, Sir Sunday Nwambam, former state chairman of EB-CSDA and now chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mr Peter Mbam, who enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money for the growth of the state.
