The Kebbi State Governor Mr Nasir Idris, has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Isma’il, over alleged negligence of duty.
The Commissioner was suspended after viral videos on the internet portraid the State’s health care system in a bad light.
In one of the video shared by a journalist, Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa, patients at Kangiwa General Hospital were seen lying on bare metal beds without mattresses.
In another video shared by a man, patients and their relatives were seen sitting inside flooded Fati Lami Sir Yahya Memorial hospital .
The two footage sparked public outrage and renewed scrutiny of the state’s healthcare facilities.
Announcing the development on Thursday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, the Kebbi government said the suspension is with immediate effect.
“The Executive Governor has instructed the suspended Commissioner for Health to justify why further sanctions should not be applied, having disregarded the mandate entrusted to him.”
