The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has approved the dismissal of five judicial officers and suspended three others, including a magistrate, for various offenses.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, told journalists in Lafia, the State Capital, that the decision was aimed to strengthen professionalism, accountability, growth, and quality service delivery.
Mr Shafa disclosed that out of the five dismissed staff, two of them, Ahmed Murabus and Mohammed Abdullahi, absconded from their duty posts for more than four and two years, respectively.
The three others, Bawa Maikeffi, Emmanuel Ombugadu, and Success Redeem Ayuba, connived with the police to detain lawful citizens during a nationwide strike, fraudulently issued an ex parte order, forged a judge’s signature, and were convicted for criminal breach of trust, respectively.
The Executive Secretary also stated that one Ayuba Enjugu, a magistrate, was found guilty and suspended for six (6) months for signing a court order without reading its contents.
“That order he gave failed to describe the lab in dispute and verify the counsel listed in the order, as different legal practitioners named by the court order had never appeared before the court in respect of the case.”
He maintained that the Commission also approved the promotion of 482 staff of the State Judiciary and the ratification of the appointments of 4 judicial officers after a thorough review of the performance of members of the staff of the judiciary.
Mr. Shafa charged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
