The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, as the new Minister of Defence, after he was subjected to about five-hour screening session by lawmakers.
Musa’s appointment follows the resignation of the immediate past Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, on Monday.
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who read Tinubu’s request for the confirmation of the new Defence minister, urged lawmakers to consider and approve the ex-CDS as a replacement Badaru.
Musa was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1991 and rose through various command and staff appointments.
In 2021, he was appointed Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, and subsequently headed the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps before his elevation to Chief of Defence Staff in 2023.
