Vehicle owners across the country have been granted 30-day grace period to regularise their tinted glass permits after lifting the embargo initially place on it Issuance.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday, the grace period begins on May 1, 2025, after which full enforcement will commence.
The statement warned that police officers found extorting or harassing motorists during enforcement would face strict disciplinary action.
“To ensure a smooth transition, a 30-day grace period has been approved, effective from May 1, 2025, within which motorists are expected to comply. Enforcement will commence at the end of this period. Officers found engaging in unprofessional conduct such as extortion or harassment in the course of enforcement will be decisively dealt with in accordance with extant disciplinary procedures,” Adejobi said.
He explained that the reactivation of the permit system followed widespread public complaints, especially from owners of vehicles with factory-fitted tinted windows.
“This initiative comes in response to complaints about the harassment of motorists over tinted windows. It provides a transparent and accountable process to regularise factory-fitted glass while addressing security concerns,” he added.
