STUDENTS LOAN: Reports of the exclusion of state institutions false, misleading-FG

Daily Intel Newspaper by Daily Intel Newspaper

BREAKING: Senate passes students loan Bill
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterChat With Us Live

Contrary to wide media reports that only students in the federal institution would benefit from the FG students loan, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has stated that state institutions would also benefit.

NELFUND in a statement by Nasir Ayitogo, the Media and Public Relations Lead on Tuesday, described the report as misleading, saying state Institutions are Included in the student loan program.

Mr Nasir said while the first phase of the scheme would focus on students from the federal institutions, the second phase will be extended to state institutions.

The statement reads: “The management of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has noticed the publication of misleading narratives on social media claiming that the student loan programme is solely for federal institutions. NELFUND categorically states that this information is incorrect.

“State institutions are unequivocally by law included in our student loan programme. The programme is designed to roll out in phases in order to ensure effective and efficient management of the process.

“The first phase for a start will focus on students attending federal institutions.

“The second phase, which will be launched shortly after the initial rollout, will extend the programme to students at state institutions.

“NELFUND is fully committed to providing financial support to all eligible students, regardless of whether they attend Federal or State tertiary public institutions.”
