The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has declared the All Progressives Congress winner of 20 out of the 23 local government areas in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
The RSIEC Chairman, Dr Michael Odey, announced the results at the commission’s Headquarters along Aba Road in Port Harcourt on Sunday afternoon.
The ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, won only three LGAs in the poll, with the suspended governor Siminalayi Fubara losing his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to the main opposition party.
The conduct of the Rivers council elections under the emergency rule has generated intense criticism, with many describing the poll as illegal.
