The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, on Monday held a meeting with the protesting retired police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Daily Intel Newspaper reported earlier that the retired police officers staged a protest at the National Assembly in Abuja to demand for unpaid entitlements and a probe into allegations of corruption in the police pension scheme.
As at the time of this report, while the outcome of the meeting remains unknown, the police in a post on its social media handles said the IGP is “currently addressing retired police officers who gathered peacefully to express their concerns over retirement benefits.”
The police added “The IGP’s presence is a demonstration of the Police leadership’s commitment to listening to the plight of the retirees and ensuring their voices are heard in a dignified and constructive manner. The engagement is ongoing in a calm and orderly atmosphere, attended only by the genuine retirees who chose the path of dialogue.”
