Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and former Secretary General of The Commonwealth, alongside notable Nigerians have announced plans to convene an emergency National Constitutional Summit to deliberate on the future of Nigeria.
The emergency National Constitutional Summit, inniated by Anyaoku’s led- The Patriots, in collaboration with the Nigerian Political Summit Group ,NPSG, was initially slated for June, but has been rescheduled to hold between July 15 and 17, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The submit which would be chaired by Anyaoku, will have in attendance eminent leaders from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
A statement by the Summit Joint Secretariat spokesperson, Prof Anthony Kila disclosed that a Confab Coordinating Committee was inaugurated on May 1 in Lagos under the joint leadership of two former governors, who are currently serving as senators, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Otunba Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State.
The statement further disclosed that they are currently mobilising broad support from state governors, leaders of thought and government gatekeepers towards a successful constitutional confab that will enrich the ongoing constitution reform process of the National Assembly.
The statement confirmed that two former Presidents of Nigeria, namely, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr Goodluck Jonathan are among eminent leaders that will grace the summit, while confirmation from General Yakubu Gowon is still being awaited.
