The Director of Public Prosecutions in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Rotimi Oyedepo, has stated that prosecutorial decisions under his leadership “will be guided solely by law, evidence, and the public interest, anchored on fairness, diligence, and integrity.”
Oyedepo made the pledge on Wednesday, when he assumed office in Abuja.
Oyedepo, who until his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, December 30, 2025, was Head Monitoring Unit at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said in a statement that his appointment was “a solemn call to service.”
Oyedepo replaced the former DPP, Abubakar Babadoko, who retired on December 31 after eight years in office.
He promised to strengthen Nigeria’s public prosecution system through professionalism, independence, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He thanked Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for finding him worthy of the appointment.
Oyedepo described his appointment as “a solemn call to service,” adding that prosecutorial decisions would be guided by “law, evidence, and the public interest” under his leadership.
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming goodwill, prayers, and congratulatory messages following my appointment as director of public prosecutions of the federation.”
He said “I look forward to constructive engagement and cooperation as we work together to build a credible, formidable, and future-ready public prosecution system for our nation,” the statement read.
