A high level delegation from the United States is due to arrive Nigeria, a statement by the US Department of State has stated.
According to the statement, the delegation which will be led by US Secretary of State Allison Hooker, as Joint Working Group, will be in the country to support the Nigerian govt’s “efforts to protect Christian communities, counter terrorism, and expand U.S. investment opportunities.”
The statement said “Secretary of State will travel to Abuja, Nigeria; Muscat, Oman; Manama, Bahrain; and Rome, Italy from January 21-29.”
The statement further disclosed that “In Oman and Bahrain, the Under Secretary will lead two separate strategic dialogues and advance cooperation across a range of security, economic, and cultural interests.
“In Italy, the Under Secretary will engage with counterparts on the administration’s global priorities such as the Russia-Ukraine war, Venezuela, and peace in the Middle East. She will also meet with UN agencies in Rome, including the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization, to discuss accountability and oversight for U.S.-funded assistance, as well as creating new agricultural trade opportunities for American farmers.”
The development is coming amid President Donald Trump’s warning that he could order more airstrikes on Nigeria if Christians continue to be killed in the West African nation.
