Fire outbreak has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the popular Nupe Line market in Igbudu Warri, Delta state.

Though the cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained, but a source who craved for anonymity said the inferno started at about 11:30pm when the rains were heavy Thursday night .

It was gathered that no life was lost, but goods worth millions of naira were consumed by the fire which also created tension over buildings around the market and vehicles packed at various car parks.

Some of the affected traders appealed to the state government to come to their aid, as the fire had rendered them empty, considering the hash economy.

One of the traders who spoke to journalists, Mrs modupe Stella expressed pains that over 30 traders had their goods destroyed by the fire, and called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come to their aid.

“We nothing again in our shops because the fire consumed everything we have. We are appealing to the state governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori’ to come to our aid . We are yet to know the cause of the outbreak,” she said.

Reacting to the incident, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr Kingsley Emu expresses sympathy with the traders, disclosing that the state government will assist them as investigation into the cause of the fire outbreak would commence as soon as possible.

“The state government sympathises with the traders. The state government will assist the traders whose goods worth millions of naira were razed and investigating committee would be constituted to ascertain the root cause of the fire outbreak . It’s very unfortunate,” Emu said.
