The Kano State Government has suspended all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities within the Kano metropolis over security concerns.
Daily Intel Newspaper understands that the directive is with immediate effect.
The development follows an emergency meeting of the State Security Council held at the Government House, Kano, where the security situation surrounding the planned activities was reviewed.
The directive added that the suspension will remain in force until a contrary order is issued.
In a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Mr Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Kano said the suspension was a precautionary measure aimed at preventing possible clashes, loss of life and destruction of property.
According to the statement, security assessments indicated significant mobilisation of supporters in connection with the planned activities, raising concerns about possible confrontations and a breakdown of law and order.
The government directed all relevant security agencies to enforce the restriction and take appropriate lawful action against anyone found violating the directive.
It also appealed to residents, traditional institutions, political actors, their supporters and other stakeholders to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding.
The government assured residents that necessary measures were being taken to protect lives and property across the metropolis.
