The Police Service Commission on Friday promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs.
The DIGs exited the Force following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police by President Bola Tinubu’
The newly promoted DIGs are: Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc (formerly AIG Zone 4, Makurdi), Zango Ibrahim Baba (formerly AIG Department of Logistics and Supply), Isyaku Mohammed (formerly AIG Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja), and Margaret Agebe Ochalla (formerly AIG FCID Annex, Lagos).
Others are Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni (formerly AIG Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja), Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc (formerly AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri), and Umar Shehu Nadada, mni (formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina).
According to a statement issued by Torty Kalu, the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC Headquarters in Abuja, the promotions became necessary to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously occupied the strategic offices.
“While congratulating the new DIGs, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), charged them to live up to the expectations of their new offices. He urged them to prioritize national security and foster a cordial and productive working relationship with the Commission to ensure the continued development of the Nigeria Police Force,” Kalu added.
Former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was removed from office by President Tinubu over his reported resistance to the President’s directive to withdraw police officers from Very Important Personalities protection duties and implementation of State Police.
His removal paved way for Disu and requires that all the DIGs before his appointment exit the Force.
