Terrorists otherwise known as bandits have killed a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), personnel simply identified as Mr. Ayo, and abducted his daughter in Odo-Ere, Yagba West local government area of Kogi State.
According to SaharaReporters, the incident occurred on Monday evening, after bandit attacked the community.
Quoting sources familiar with the incident, SaharaReporters stated that the NSCDC officer who was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, following gunshot injuries he sustain during the attack was later pronounced death.
The gunmen were also said to have abducted the officer’s first daughter before fleeing the community.
Residents who spoke about the incident expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the area and called on security agencies to urgently intervene to prevent further attacks.
The latest incident has heightened fears among residents of Odo-Ere and surrounding communities, who have repeatedly complained about recurring cases of kidnappings and armed attacks.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi and neighbouring Kwara State.
Daily Intel Newspaper reported several incidents of kidnappings, banditry and violent attacks across communities in both states, with residents accusing authorities of failing to adequately address the persistent security threats.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the killing of the NSCDC officer and the abduction of his daughter.
