The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has aligned with the position of the party’s National leader, Seriake Dickson, over the constitution of campaign council by the OK Movement.
The Obidient and kwankwaso Movement OK Movement) had in a statement announced the inauguration of Obi’s 2027 Presidential
Campaign Council, charging members to take campaign messages to Nigerians across the country.
Dickson, a former Bayelsa State governor, rejected the Council, arguing that the Ok Movement lack the powers to do so, and that it cannot usurp the role of the NDP as a political party.
Aligning with Mr Dickson, Obi said the Ok Movement cannot operate outside the party, arguing that as a support group, it was out of place for it to assume the role of a political party.
Obi who stated this while fielding questions on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme on Thursday, clarified that though, he was not privy to development, he pointed out that the supremacy of the party must be respected.
“First, NDC is the political party we all belong to. And I agree entirely with the position of the leader (Seriake Dickson). OK Movement, Obidient group, Kwankwasiyya, and other supporting groups are supporting groups. They must play their role as supporting groups, supporting the party.
“They should not play the role of the party. We’ve found a situation where one of the supporting groups is using the nomenclature, that is forming Presidential Campaign Council, it shouldn’t be. No,” Obi said.
Asked whether the OK Movement campaign council had been created with his knowledge or approval, Obi said it had not.
“Not at all. And I say it here, it is wrong. You are supporting—OK Movement is Obi and Kwankwaso. So whatever you do must have express approval of both of us,” he said.
