The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), has directed staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), to proceed on indefinite strike starting from Monday, January 19, 2026.
In the notice of strike seen by Daily Intel Newspaper, the Union said it was embarking on an indefinite strike after the administration failed to address workers demands.
The notice which was electronically signed by the JUAC Secretary, urged all workers in the FCT to fully comply with the directive until their demands are met.
According to the Union, the strike action is total as it will affect all FCTA Secretariats, Departments, Agencies (SDAs), Area Councils and Parastatals.
JUAC said it arrived at the decision after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to FCTA management, which it claimed was ignored without any meaningful response.
The unions listed several unresolved issues prompting the strike, including the non-payment of outstanding wage awards, unpaid promotion arrears, delayed promotions and the elongation of tenure of retired directors and permanent secretaries.
Other grievances include the alleged non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, poor working conditions, staff intimidation and what the unions described as the continued neglect of workers’ welfare.
JUAC also expressed concern over what it called a “mass failure” in the 2024 promotion examinations, which it said affected about 77.5 per cent of candidates.
