Gunmen on Tuesday reportedly killed two security operatives at Isiala-Mbano local government area headquarters in Imo state.
Daily Intel Newspaper gathered that the armed men invaded the area at about 9:30 pm, and attacked their target.
It was further gathered that the attackers killed two security personnel on duty and set some sections of the LG building and vehicles ablaze.
Source said the attack is unconnected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election slated for the 27 LGAs and 306 wards across the state.
“Two security personnel at Isiala-Mbano council headquarters have been shot dead. The hoodlums also set ablaze portion of the council building and several vehicles parked on the premises,” the source revealed.
Speaking the likely reason for the attack, the source stated, “APC has slated their primaries for the September 21 local government council election. The assailants may have thought the exercise was held today at the council headquarters.
“They stormed there around 9:30 pm and shot the security men on sight to death. Many others escaped with various degrees of injuries.
“There is palpable tension in the LGA headquarters, because people, as I speak, many run away to neighbouring villages for fear of being killed. Government and police should come to our rescue.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye was not readily available to comment on the unfortunate incident.
