Ibom Air says it has commenced domestic flight operations at the newly inaugurated international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The airline disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by its CEO George Uriesi, adding that the announcement marks the beginning of local flight operations at the airport.
“Today marks another defining moment in the evolution of Ibom Air and the aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State.”
“The commencement of our domestic operations from the new International Terminal reflects our unwavering commitment to providing our passengers with a seamless, safe and world-class travel experience,” he added.
After equipping the airport with the required facility, the state government announced in a statement in April of FG’s approval and commencement of international flights from the airport.
The latest operational feat means that passengers travelling on Ibom Air’s domestic routes will now depart from and arrive at the international terminal rather than from the airport’s previous domestic facility.
The move comes as airports across the country continue to grapple with increasing passenger traffic and growing demand for improved infrastructure and service delivery.
According to the airline, the new terminal offers expanded passenger handling capacity and upgraded facilities aimed at improving the travel experience.
The terminal is equipped with modern check-in areas, boarding facilities and enhanced security infrastructure designed to accommodate expanding passenger volumes.
Mr Uriesi said the facility is expected to improve operational efficiency while supporting the state’s aviation ambitions.
The push also reflects efforts by Akwa Ibom State to strengthen the position of Victor Attah International Airport within Nigeria’s aviation network.
The airline, which began operations in 2019, has grown its domestic route network and emerged as one of Nigeria’s leading carriers by passenger traffic and on-time performanc.
The airline said arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to scheduled flights.
The commencement of domestic operations at the terminal is expected to further increase activity at the airport and support broader efforts to improve air transport connectivity in the South-South region.
