The comptroller-general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has tasked the 1,626 officers from the Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course to uphold professionalism in border security.
The graduation ceremony, which culminated in a passing-out parade, was held at the Immigration Training School, Kano and the Digital Bridge Institute.
According to a statement by Akinsola Akinlabi, a spokesperson for NIS, on Sunday, Ms Nandap, represented by the assistant comptroller-general, Samuel Agba, restated the importance of technology in addressing contemporary border security and migration management challenges.
The NIS boss reaffirmed the service’s commitment to continuous training, upgrading and welfare of its personnel.
The commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, Anthony Akuneme, said a record number of cadets were mobilised for the training, making it the largest in the school’s history.
Mr Akuneme urged the graduating officers to stay responsive to changing border-management dynamics by facilitating legitimate migration flows while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.
He restated the need for the officers to deploy the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in strengthening the country’s border security and migration management efforts.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of merit awards to deserving participants in recognition of their outstanding performance during the course.
The highlight of the event was the commissioning of an ultra-modern market built by the course participants as part of activities marking the completion of the training.
