Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore has vowed to remain in police custody despite being granted bail.
Daily Intel reported that Sowore was summoned by the police to respond to allegations of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and acts allegedly intended to prevent arrests.
Following his engagement with the Force Intelligence Department ,FID, in Abuja on Monday, the police granted him bail with a condition he described as unjust.
He vowed to reject any bail conditions that he believed could undermine his innocence, dignity, or integrity.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he maintained that his ordeal was politically motivated, alleging that the authorities were targeting him because of his public criticism of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure extension.
He claimed that the police intended to detain him and transfer him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”
He said “I have also advised the DIG that in accepting ‘bail,’ I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity.
“If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court. Even then, I know that there is no crime defined or to be investigated—it is just the impunity that has become the hallmark of the @PoliceNG hierarchy.”
